Review:
Ease of Use: Very easy, just plug an distortion goes on, instructions manual does not come with, that's mean it's not only for beginners! You don't need hours of setup to be pleased, the sound comes easily so if you don't like at first, probably never does..in my opinion once you get used to the sound you will love it, no matter Boss or anything, four knobs, Level, Lo, Hi, Gain.. It's self explanatory. // 9

Sound: Using Ibanez GRG170DX and Vox Pathfinder 10 watt, the pedal has a great shape of sound at low gain for chords,
and it have enough strenght at full gain to face any kind of heavy sounds, distortion keeps in a block, some other pedals tend to lost itself after 3/4 of gain, this one have none of that useless frequencies, EQ works fine, it seems to be scooped at some positions, sounds great. // 10

Reliability & Durability: Well constructed, very cool looking unit, it's solid as a rock, perfect for Live performance, just one mess, perhaps the knobs may turn if you 'rock so much on it' they seem to be soft rolling knobs, but this doesn't really matter, I would get another for sure. // 9

Impression: I don't think this pedal must be for beginners, guess your music will tell you that, so don't let the price fool you, of course it is not the best gear you can get out there, it's just a matter of taste, cheaps pedal have great tones, it would be your sound definitely. // 9

Paul Gilbert thrashes and rolls only with the best of instruments, namely his own. His signature models deliver with a rough and tumble combination of shred playability and warm tone just where he wants it. The design of the FRM100TR was inspired by many hours of playing and performance by Paul Gilbert with the original Ibanez Fireman model. The most eye-catching part of the FRM100TR is its unique body shape, featuring a distinctive reverse Iceman body outline. The Fireman's mahogany body balances remarkably well.FEATURESSimilar to his other signature models, the FRM100TR features a specific layout to keep the volume knob location in Paul's favorite spot. In addition, the guitar features a pickup selector switch and an added tone control for maximum tone shaping. The neck of Fireman is different than the previous RG shapes in the Paul Gilbert signature series. It's thicker and fatter - 22mm@1st fret and 24mm@12th fret - for a classic feel. The 3 pc mahogany/maple/mahogany neck offers the player a fat and tight sound with a solid grip for comfortable playability which Paul demanded. The FRM100TR features DiMarzio pickups favored by Paul. The bridge and neck positions feature DiMarzio Injectors, while the middle features a DiMarzio Area '67. They are designed with hum-cancelling construction to eliminate the noise but retain single-coil tone. These pickups have a warm, modern tone compared to vintage single coil pickups, and provide a clear, tight sound. The sound stays true even under high gain settings, so solos can be clearly heard when performing with a group. The classic bright and clean sound is easy to achieve. The original Ibanez Tight-Tune bridge and tailpiece promote superior transfer of string vibration without unwanted movement.

Maxon Reissue Series OD808 Overdrive

Maxon Reissue Series OD808 Overdrive

  • A favorite overdrive pedal among many popular artists, such as Adam D of Killswitch Engage, Nick Hipa from As I Lay Dying, Metal Mike from Halford and the list goes on
  • Offers the smooth, natural overdrive of a full-up tube amplifier in a compact pedal
  • Incredibly dynamic, the Maxon OD808 pedal responds precisely to playing nuances and allows your instrument's natural tone to shine through
  • Identical to the original circuit and featuring the JRC4558 IC chip
  • Most imitated and most lauded overdrive circuit of all time
  • The OD808 provides the natural, mild overdrive of a tube amp without sacrificing your guitarâs original tone

Originally released in 1979, the Maxon OD808 was one of the first tube-amp overdrive simulators to hit the market. Its smooth, creamy crunch tone caught on quickly, and helped to launch a long line of predecessors as well as imitators. Today, the OD808 design is without a doubt the most used, most imitated and most lauded overdrive circuit of all time. The reason for this is simple - tone - the OD808 provides the natural, mild overdrive of a tube amp without sacrificing your guitar's original tone. In addition, it can be used as a clean booster to provide increased gain without compromising the sound of your amplifier. The secret behind the legendary "808 tone" lies in the amplifier section of its circuit. Rather than having an amplifier stage followed by a clipping stage, the Maxon OD808 uses a signal-distorting diode (Panasonic #MA150) that is located in the amplifier stage's negative feedback loop (which also contains the JRC4558 IC chip). Therefore, the Maxon OD808 distorts signal in the amplifier circuit itself which yields a smoother, milder, more natural sounding distortion than a separate clipping stage. This is also the reason that the IC type used in the circuit has such a large impact on the unit's tone. It should be noted that the Reissue Series OD808 uses different output resistors than the original version. After the unit's initial release it was discovered to have a high susceptibility to noise due to static electricity buildup. To improve performance, the positions of the output resistors on the reissue OD808 were reversed and their values increased in order to reduce noise levels. This circuit change has no audible affect on the sound of the unit, save for reducing the noise levels. Whether it's used as an overdrive or a booster, the Maxon OD808 is the closest you can get to the classic sounds of 1970's rock guitar in a compact effect pedal.
